BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU / COZZENS JIU JITSU
COZZENS SUBMISSION WRESTLING
Submission Wrestling is a predicesor of the modern versions of Folk style, Freestyle, and Greco Roman wrestling. The goal of Submission Wrestling is to make your opponent concede defeat through chokes, arm locks, leg locks, and discomforting pressure.
Cozzens Submission Wrestling is a fundamental and principle based system of submissions combined with top notch wrestling. No matter the situation, the "principles" of grappling do not change. Most principles are very easily learned and can be implemented by even the novice practitioners.
CSW places an emphasis on mastering these principles and fundamentals of both submissions and wrestling. Glenn Cozzens has sought out and trained with Olympic coaches in Freestyle wrestling, Greco Roman wrestling, and Judo, as well as Champion BJJ black belts in order to enhance, use, and teach what the best grapplers in the world are doing. Training methodes and tecniques are always cutting edge in Cozzens Submission Wrestling because of the world class training that Glenn is always seeking, receiving, and bringing into the gym.
In-class matches are done on a daily basis for fitness and the practicing of techniques. The students test themselves on a daily basis in order to progress. Students are also encouraged to compete and are supported by the CJJ team in local and national tournaments in order to progress at an even faster rate.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools of Japanese jujutsu. It promotes the principles of using leverage and proper technique; most notably, by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.
Cozzens Jiu Jitsu is a fundamental and principle based approach to BJJ. No matter the situation, the "principals" of grappling do not change. Most principles are very easily learned and can be implemented by even the novice practitioners.
CJJ places an emphasis on mastering these principles and fundamentals. Glenn Cozzens has sought out and trained with Olympic coaches in Freestyle wrestling, Greco Roman wrestling, and Judo, as well as Champion BJJ black belts in order to enhance, use, and teach what the best grapplers in the world are doing. COZZENS MUAY THAI
COZZENS BOXING
When learning boxing at the CJJ gym the boxer gets a solid base in the fundamentals of boxing that can take the boxer to new fitness levels or through the amateur ranks and into the pro ranks of boxing.
Our certified USA Boxing coaches are able to teach the boxer both outside and inside skills. The outside boxing skills and fundamentals that we teach are endorsed by Kenny Adams (1988 Olympic Boxing Coach) and Frank Flores (USA Team Coach & US Army Coach) and have been proven many times over by the US Olympic team with Gold Medals and by professionals fighters with world championships.
Another predominant skill set that our coaches teach is known as the "Cus D'Amato Style". This style was used very successfully by notable fighters such as Floyd Patterson, Jose Torres, and Mike Tyson.
Coaching both inside and outside styles enables our gym to continiously be on the cutting edge and produce champions in large US tournaments such as The Arnold Classic, Ringside World Championships (Largest amateur tournament in the world), and Regional Golden Glove Championships.
Muay Thai consists of an arsenal using the head, fists, elbows, knees and feet; known collectively as na-wa arwud. However in modern Muay Thai, head-butting is no longer allowed.
In order to strike and control for offensive and defensive purposes, clinching is an essential part of the positioning and set-ups in Muay Thai. All of our instructors are well versed in the clinch and unbalancing techniques that maximize the opponent's loss of balance.
In recent years Muay Thai has evolved and incorporated the more powerful striking techniques used in western style boxing over the older style of exchanging blows for blows. This is another huge advantage that our system of Muay Thai has. All of our Muay Thai instructors are also USA boxing certified boxing coaches and know how to incorporate the powerful strikes of "Western" boxing in conjunction with the devestating elbows, knees, and kicks of traditional Muay Thai.
Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the entire body movement. Muay Thai concentrates on rotating the hip with each kick, punch, elbow and knee. The rotation of the hips and the employment of the bodys core in Muay Thai are very distinctive and is what sets Muay Thai apart from other styles of martial arts.
